Many thanks to Peter Cox for his talk

We had an excellent meeting last night thanks to Peter Cox (Irish Landscape Photographer of the Year, 2007)
who came and gave us a very informed talk last night. More details on Peter's work can be found on my website: http://www.petercox.ie
Peter is one of the very few full-time landscape photographers in Ireland. And he gave us an excellent introduction to his landscape photography - both in terms of the creative decisions, but also the technical considerations and postprocessing applied to each photograph. to see some of his tutorials visit the tutorital section of the website http://www.petercox.ie/learn_digital_photography.php

Peter also told us about his upcoming seminars in Dublin and Cork on the subjects of composition and postprocessing to your membership. Full details can be found at (http://www.petercox.ie/composition_postprocessing_seminar.php), he is holding three one-day seminars - one on composition and two on postprocessing in November and December. Admission is €50 per person for each day, or €135 for all three.
Thanks again to Peter.

Also congrats to Shane McDonald who was awarded first place by Peter in our club competition for the theme Early Morning, the picture can be seen here.

As the Competition Coordinator for the above event, I would appreciate it if your club would put a printed copy of the attached information on the club's notice board and on your web site if you have one.

It would also be appreciated if you would promote the workshops on the Saturday. A good turnout is essential so that the IPF will be able to continue to improve these events and give members an opportunity to learn more about the art of photography through education.

Circular Vs. Linear Polarizers Filters

At a recent club meeting we had a discussion about camera filters, the question was asked what was the difference between a circular and linear polarizer filter. Here is a simple explanation (for more detailed scientific and quite confusing explanation one just do a search on google).

There are two types of polarizing filters available — linear or circular. Linear polarizers are more effective and less expensive than circular ones. But circular polarizers are needed with just about any camera that has a through-the-lens metering system, or autofocus.

The reason for this is that both of these systems use semi-silvered mirrors to siphon off some of the light coming though the lens. If that light is linearly polarized it renders either the metering or the autofocus ineffective. This means that you're going to have to buy circular polarizers unless you're shooting with a pre-1970's camera, or a view camera.

Creative digital editing Course.

Brenda is planning two 2-day weekend classes in Creative Digital work. These workshops will involve learning to use layers, textures, and photoshop brushes.
These are the tools I use when creating images such as my recent Halloween image -Its easier than it looks once you get the hang of using the right tools!!!!

The dates I am planning are: Saturday/Sunday: 21st/22nd November _2: computer places available, 3 - bring your own laptop places
Saturday/Sunday 29th/30th November     2: computer places available  2 - Bring your own laptop places

Also for those who have enquired about me repeating the "converting to Black and White course", she would be interested in repeating it but would need a minimum of three people. Would do it first weekend in December or over two evenings.

Cost: Creative digital course:€60 (includes lunch both days & refreshments+ set of tutorial dvds)
Conversion to B&W      €25 (includes lunch, refreshments+ dvd)
